Cape Town | Claude Impact Lab
On 2 December we’re spending a full day at the AWS Skills Centre Cape Town building with Claude on a social issue in our society, a real problem affecting real people in South Africa, that we’re hoping to help solve.
In partnership with local civic and non-profit leaders, teams will work directly on a challenge statement provided by our partner. A subject matter expert will set out the problem in the morning, you’ll get API credits and a team, and then it’s six to eight hours of focused building until the 4pm submission deadline. Participants will build open-source prototypes aimed at delivering immediate, day-one value. All deliverables will be open-sourced and donated to our partner organisation.
Judging, final presentations and a proper wrap follow, with food through the day so nobody has to stop.
The Impact Lab is part of the Claude Community Events series, hosted by Claude community members around the world.
Who should apply
We’re looking for a balanced mix of technical builders, designers, domain experts and non-technical problem solvers. You don’t need to be a Claude expert. You do need to be up for a long, focused day with people you may not have met yet.
Developers and AI builders: build, prototype and ship working agents and tools with $100 in Anthropic API credits.
Designers, domain experts and non-technical contributors: lead domain strategy, refine workflow logic, craft readable communications and direct solution design.
Registration is application-based so we can build balanced, cross-functional teams. You can register as a team of 4–5 or apply individually and we’ll pair you ahead of time. Space is limited to around 70 people.

Direct partner impact: winning solutions will be connected directly with our partner organisation for production deployment.

What to bring
Laptop and charger. We recommend at least one member per team has an active Claude Max or Pro plan.
A GitHub account. All projects must be pushed to a public GitHub repository.

Registration and attendance
Pre-formed teams are capped at 3–5 members.
Applications: tell us a bit about yourself and why you want to be in the room. We’ll confirm places by 14 November.
Cancellations: space is strictly limited. If your plans change, please cancel your Luma registration at least 1 week before so we can fill your spot from the waitlist.
