About Event

The Legal Empowerment & Advocacy Hub (LEAH) and the Jailhouse Lawyer Initiative (JLI) housed at NYU School of Law is inviting legal practitioners and access to justice organizations for a community conversation exploring how global community paralegal practices might inform new pathways for community-based legal support in New York City, hosted at Anew.

Community paralegals play an important role in expanding access to justice around the world, working alongside lawyers and community organizations to help people understand, use and transform the law. This gathering will introduce the concept of community paralegals and invite lawyers to share their perspectives on how they imagine community paralegals showing up within NYC’s legal ecosystem.

The conversation will help inform future collaboration, training, and leadership opportunities for justice-impacted legal advocates in the city.

Lunch will be served.

The Legal Empowerment & Advocacy Hub (LEAH) builds community power through legal empowerment education and peacebuilding, enabling people to know, use, and transform the systems that shape their lives.

The Jailhouse Lawyer Initiative (JLI) invests in jailhouse lawyers as a core strategy to ending the cycle of incarceration.

Anew is a gathering space and discovery center for the social impact community.
