The Blockspace Hackerhouse: smart contracts on Polkadot, intro to Rust and diving into the Polkadot SDK
The Blockspace is the ultimate hacker base during ETHDenver 2024, taking place in a historical downtown mansion. We invite you to join us for a series of talks and workshops, to come hang out, co-work and meet other developers hacking on the Polkadot bounties.
Join us for a day of workshops to help you get started with building on Polkadot. 🚀
🗓️ Agenda for the day:
1:30 PM - 2:30 PM - Polkadot for smart contract dApp builders🧑💻
Presenter: Sacha Lansky, Developer Advocate
There are many Polkadot layer-1 chains you could launch your dApp on including AlephZero, Astar, Moonbeam. Different chains also have different smart contract execution VMs — the popular ones being the famous EVM and WebAssembly-based "pallet contracts". In this workshop you'll get hands on experience learning ink!, the smart contract language that compiles to WebAssembly and learn about the options for deploying your dApps on Polkadot.
2:45 PM - 3:45 PM - Intro to Rust for the Polkadot SDK 🦀
Presenter: Bader Youssef, Technical Educator (W3F)
This beginner-intermediate workshop will focus on a series of practical examples, ranging from vanilla Rust to the structure of a blockchain’s runtime code. Ideal for those both new to Rust, as well as Substrate — the collection of libraries that make up the Polkadot SDK.
4:00 PM - 5:30 PM - Intro to tooling and the Polkadot SDK 💻
Presenter: Sacha Lansky, Developer Advocate
In the first part of this workshop, we'll learn about the different tools and libraries out there for building on Polkadot.
In the second part, we'll dive into the Polkadot SDK to learn the basics about building a Substrate based appchain. You'll write simple FRAME pallets and learn about the different components of the Polkadot SDK by completing a fun quest as you progress through the workshop.
