Emily Byrne didn't set out to start a company, she just wanted to leave her phone in another room. Frustrated by every sunrise alarm clock on the market, she looked at the Himalayan salt lamp on her nightstand and thought: what if that was a sunrise alarm clock? 3 years, 3 trips to Hong Kong and more than a dozen prototypes later, she launched RISE Centered on Kickstarter in 2023 to an overwhelming response. Her clocks are crafted from natural materials — Himalayan salt, wood, and fabric — designed to be beautiful, calming, and gloriously free of apps and subscriptions. Emily builds her business right here at Poppy, ships every order using Pirate Ship, is a new mom and is one of the most compelling examples we know of what it looks like to turn a simple idea into something people genuinely love.
