

Discussion: Biological Weapon Convention
For this session, we will read the introduction to the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) and discuss it in context of biosecurity concerns.
We're delighted to welcome Peter Ahabwe Babigumira, who will join us online as our guest. Peter Ahabwe Babigumira is a biosafety and biosecurity practitioner and biorisk management professional working at the intersection of public health, outbreak intelligence and international biological security. He is currently Friend of the Chair for Science and Technology to the Working Group on Strengthening the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) and an Epidemic Intelligence Analyst (CBRN) at the Uganda National Institute of Public Health (UNIPH), Ministry of Health. He also serves as Director of Policy and Strategic Partnerships at Nuo Bioscience and contributes to the INTERPOL Biological Threat Classification Expert Working Group. His work focuses on biological threat assessment, dual-use research, emerging biotechnology, outbreak preparedness and the governance of biological risks.
Anyone with interest in biosecurity is welcome to participate and contribute questions. In the end, we'll have time for an open-ended discussion and socializing over snacks in-person.
