Financing the Global South’s Green Workforce: Evidence, Emerging Solutions, and Stakeholder Dialogue
Africa's green economy could create up to 84.5 million jobs by 2050, yet less than 1% of climate finance currently flows to skills development. India faces parallel pressures as it scales toward 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030, with a workforce dominated by informal and MSME workers. How do we close this financing gap?
Co-hosted by FSD Africa, Systemiq, Shell Foundation, LinkedIn, and Surge Climate Talent as part of London Climate Action Week 2026, this invitation-only roundtable brings together philanthropies, DFIs, bilateral partners, and climate finance specialists to examine the evidence, explore an emerging blended finance hypothesis for green skills and livelihoods, and co-shape what new financing approaches could look like across Global South markets.
The session follows the launch of FSD Africa's flagship report, Unlocking Africa's Green Transition: Opportunities Towards a Green and Inclusive Workforce, and will combine plenary insights with small-group dialogue to ensure active participation from all attendees.
