βThis week Lucian, Daniel, and Savannah are excited to have a wholesome potluck on the roof together! We may even bust out the propane heaters and snuggle up!
βBring a japanese dish, side, drinks, or a joint to share. β€οΈ
Here are some ideas for what to bring food-wise:
Cold/Room Temperature:
βOnigiri (rice balls) - Just seasoned rice shaped into triangles, often with fillings like umeboshi or salmon. Very forgiving and can be made ahead.
βCucumber sunomono - Sweet vinegar cucumber salad. Literally just slicing cucumbers and tossing with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt.
βEdamame - Boil frozen edamame in salted water. Can't really mess it up!
βJapanese potato salad - Similar to regular potato salad but with Japanese mayo, cucumber, and sometimes apple.
βHot Dishes:
βGyoza - You can buy premade wrappers and just focus on the filling. Pan-frying them is straightforward.
βChicken teriyaki - Basically just soy sauce, mirin, and sugar glazed on chicken. Hard to go wrong.
βYakisoba - Stir-fried noodles with cabbage and protein. Very flexible and reheats well.
βTamagoyaki - Sweet rolled omelet. Does take some practice but even imperfect ones taste great.
βDesserts:
βMochi with ice cream - Buy premade mochi or ice cream mochi from Asian grocery stores.
βMatcha cookies - Regular cookie recipe with matcha powder added.
βThe rice balls, cucumber salad, and edamame are probably the absolute easiest if someone's nervous about their cooking skills!
