About Event

For some ops people, it can be hard to feel confident in our data-driven/analytical skills -  particularly if we don't have experience in finance, data analysis, or science.

But how do we even know what we don't know? What are the key data skills that every ops person needs? JDs state things like "high analytical" and "data-driven" and "must have X years at top-tier management consulting". Why do businesses ask for this? What do these phrases mean?

And once we figure out what skills we want to develop, how do we decide which course to take? Data analysis is a minefield, and it could be easy to spend a fortune and a lot of time enrolling in courses that ultimately don't serve a purpose/meet a need. Excel? SQL? Python? Airtable? What about how to interpret this data? Make decisions based on the data?

Thankfully, our community is full of great minds - so let's find the answers to these questions together.

Hosted by Gabby Cummins, former COO of Learn Amp, we've asked some community members to help us answer these questions. We'll be joined by some amazing volunteers:

  • Ajay Palekar, Business Analytics Manager @ Hofy

    • Ajay is an operational leader (COO) turned into a data analyst/data/strategy leader (Business Analytics), who has recently gone through the journey of upskilling in data & analytical significantly.

  • Vess Ignatova, Strategy & Biz Ops Consultant

    • Vess has worked in data analysis as part of the whole product positioning journey for Uber, Nissan, and Hopin. She now advises seed/Series A startups on the set up of their Biz Ops function; and pre-seed and seed stage startups on fundraising strategy, and early growth strategies.

  • Hugo Froes, Product Operations Lead @ OLX Motors Europe

    • Hugo comes from a design background and now works as Product Operations Lead. He's had to evolve his analytical skills and now spends many an hour on spreadsheets trying to extract insights, patterns and connections.

  • Kyle Thomas, Founder @ UpEmployment

    • Kyle had little data skills before joining Uber and developed them all on the fly by doing, copying and applying, etc. as he worked on launching markets (New York State, Connecticut, New Jersey), launching products (Taxi, e-bikes), and managing people and systems.

By the end of the session, we're hoping to create a straightforward "playlist" or "roadmap" to closing these skills, and a confidence checker/rating checklist to help you assess them.

Please feel free to bring food and drinks to consume during the session. See you soon! 💜
