Live Workshop: Build a RAG Pipeline on African Compute Infrastructure | AI Collective & DataSpires
Build a Legal RAG Pipeline on African Compute: A hands-on session with AI Collective Cape Town and DataSpires
Most legal AI tools route your data through overseas servers. This session is about building differently.
Join DataSpires founder Krupa Suchak and lead engineer Ian Omung'a for a 90-minute live build session where you'll construct a working Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipeline for legal use cases — running on African-hosted infrastructure, using the AfriLink SDK.
RAG is one of the most practical patterns for legal AI: it lets you query real documents — case law, contracts, regulatory policy — without retraining a model or sending sensitive data offshore. We'll walk the full pipeline live, and you'll build alongside us in your own environment.
We'll also have an honest conversation about compute sovereignty: what it means in practice, why it matters for legal and regulated data, and what African infrastructure actually exists today — from Cassava to CHPC to Eversetech.
Who this is for: Developers and ML practitioners building legal AI tools · LegalTech founders and researchers · Anyone who cares about where their AI inference actually runs
Prerequisites: Basic Python (pip install, API calls) · Python 3.9+ · No ML background needed
Free compute credit for registered attendees: Pre-register at dataspires.com before the session to verify your attendance and receive $5 in AfriLink compute credit to use for the workshop.
Session outline

RAG for legal contexts — hallucination, citation, jurisdiction sensitivity explained practically
Live build — RAG pipeline on DataSpires using the AfriLink SDK: routing compute, embedding documents, querying with retrieval
Compute sovereignty in depth — data residency, African-hosted inference, infrastructure you can trace and trust
Q&A and next steps — free compute access on AfriLink SDK, what to build next
What you'll leave with
