Idea Sprint
From problem to pitch in just three hours.
Cambridge is one of the best places in the world to meet fellow aspiring entrepreneurs and build ideas that can change the world.
Idea Sprint brings you together with other ambitious University of Cambridge students to do exactly that.
You’ll form a team, tackle a real-world problem, develop an early solution and pitch your idea, all in just three hours. It’s a chance to put your entrepreneurial ambition into action, have some fun and meet people you might build something with in the future.
No existing idea, team or entrepreneurship experience is needed. Come ready to get stuck in, test your thinking and take your first step into entrepreneurship.
What will we do?
During the sprint, you’ll work in a small team to:
Generate and explore real-world problems
Choose one problem to take forward
Identify the people, users or communities affected by it
Develop an early solution concept
Explore how the idea could create value and generate income
Prepare and deliver a short pitch
Teams will form during the event, so you can come on your own. You’ll be guided through each stage by our expert facilitators, with practical activities to help your team move from problem to pitch.
Schedule
5:00–5:30pm – Registration & light food
5:30–8:30pm – Idea Sprint
8:30–9:00pm – Optional networking
Light food will be available from 5:00–7:30pm. If you think you’ll need something a little more substantial, we’d recommend eating beforehand.
The session will start at 5:30 sharp so please don't be late!
What will I learn?
By the end of the event, you should be better able to:
Identify and clearly describe a real-world problem
Explore who cares about the problem and why it matters
Develop an early solution while recognising that ideas can change as you learn
Explain how an idea could create value
Outline a simple business model
Communicate your idea through a short, focused pitch
Who is it for?
Idea Sprint is open to University of Cambridge students and recent alumni from any subject or level of study, including undergraduate, Master’s and PhD students.
You do not need:
An existing idea
A team
Previous entrepreneurship experience
Business or technical knowledge
Plans to start a company
This is an introductory and exploratory event for anyone who is curious about entrepreneurship, interested in solving problems or keen to experience how an idea can develop through teamwork.
What do I need to bring?
Just bring your curiosity, your perspective and a willingness to work with other students. You do not need to prepare an idea before attending, and teams will form on the day.
We'd also recommend bringing a laptop, plus a pen and notebook if you'd like to capture ideas and notes.
Light food will be provided.
What will I take away?
You’ll leave with:
Experience of working in a team through the journey from problem to early idea
A clearer understanding of who your idea could help and why it matters
An initial solution concept
A simple outline of how the idea could create value and generate income
Experience of developing and delivering a pitch
Feedback and ideas for how the concept could move forward
We'll also share relevant entrepreneurship events and programmes, and our 1-2-1 Idea Clinic support if you would like to continue exploring entrepreneurship after the sprint.
