What Urban Systems Can Teach Technology-Enabled Products and Services

How can designers build products and services that are not only useful but also socially aware, context-sensitive, and better connected to the realities people live within?

In this EPC member session, we will be joined by Dr. Idrees Rasouli for a conversation on design for social good, drawing from his ongoing work, The Thinking City and his wider practice across cities, systems, civic innovation, technology, and social impact.

The session will explore what designers can learn from socially integrated urban systems: how cities hold relationships, behaviours, infrastructure, access, care, inequality, and collective life. It will look at how these ideas can inform the way we design technology-enabled products and services — especially when the goal is to create meaningful social value, not just efficient digital experiences.

For designers working across products, services, organisations, and communities, this conversation is an opportunity to think beyond isolated user journeys and consider the larger systems our work enters, shapes, and depends on.

The session will be conversational, beginning with a short opening talk by Idrees, followed by questions and discussion with EPC members.

This is a member-only session for the Extended Pack Collective.
