Coffee, Cake & Chat - Confident Conversations with Your Child: Puberty
You've seen the flyer, here's a little more about what the morning actually looks like.
These sessions are a space to have an open conversation within a small group led by Liz Vorster from Shift Health Education, who talks to young people about exactly these topics in schools every week.
We'll cover puberty for both girls and boys, the physical and emotional changes, the challenges that can come with them and how to support your child through it. We'll talk through when and how to start these conversations at home, what language tends to work, and how to keep the door open.
Topics we can cover include:
Periods, what to expect and how to prepare your child
Wet dreams and erections
Body odour, spots and physical changes
Mood swings, heightened emotions and shifting friendships
Self esteem and body image
Pubic and body hair
Breast development
The social side, peer pressure, fitting in and changing relationships
And any other challenges or questions you might have
This is also your time to ask the questions you haven't known where to take and to hear how other parents are navigating the same things.
Coffee, tea and cake are provided. Children do not attend this session.
Spaces are limited to make for better conversations. If this one is full, don't worry, we will add you to the waiting list and more sessions are coming!
