First Table: Learn to Play American Mahjong (2 Classes)
Please Note: This is a two-part series meeting two nights. Registration includes both.
Welcome to First Table—where your Mahjong story begins.
This beginner series is designed for anyone who has been curious about American Mahjong but isn’t quite sure where to start. No experience is needed, and you don’t need to bring a group. Come with a friend or arrive on your own—you’ll have a seat waiting for you.
Across two relaxed, hands-on evenings, we’ll take the mystery out of the tiles, the card, the Charleston, and all those wonderfully quirky Mahjong rules. You’ll learn by doing, with plenty of personal guidance, practice, laughter, and time for questions. By the end of the series, you won’t simply understand how American Mahjong works—you’ll be playing!
Our setting for First Table is Franklin Street Social, York County’s first food hall, located inside a beautifully reimagined historic furniture factory in Red Lion. With 13 different restaurants, one central bar, and plenty of social energy, everyone can choose what sounds good to them before settling in at the Mahjong table.
Come early to explore the food and drink options and purchase anything you’d like to enjoy during class. Food and beverages are not included in registration and may also be purchased during our planned break midway through each evening.

First Table is intentionally kept small so everyone receives personal attention and plenty of hands-on playing time. All Mahjong equipment will be provided.
A current National Mah Jongg League card is required for $15; bring your own (do not buy from Amazon, except directly from the League as they are incorrect and counterfeit) or purchase one from House of Marson the night of the event.
Expect a few fun surprises along the way—and perhaps the beginning of your newest obsession.
