Meeting each other
What happens when two people really pay attention to each other?
Dancing together doesn't go far without the ability to listen, respond and move with another person. That's the theme of our second Dance in Conversation gathering.
Dance in Conversation is a series of evenings about what is alive in our dance. In the first one, Landing, we arrived in our bodies. This time we'll build on that and explore the space between two people: how far, how fast, who leads, who follows, and what else is possible.
We'll move alone, in pairs, and with the whole group, with short guided exercises and time to check in with each other afterwards. No embrace. Any light contact, like hands, is your choice.
We won't teach steps or a style, and nobody has to be good at anything. You don't need a partner or any dance experience. Come as you are, whether you've danced for years or never have.
Booking is essential; places are limited.
Doors open at 6:15 pm if you'd like time to settle in before we begin at 6:30 pm. We'll close by 8:30 pm.
What to bring
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Layers are useful, as the room may warm up, and warm socks or soft shoes are good for moving around.
The venue has cushions and yoga mats if you'd like to sit on the floor. Chairs will also be available.
About Dance in Conversation
This is part of a series of monthly gatherings exploring what comes alive in our dance: how we arrive, meet, listen, respond and come into relationship.
Dance in Conversation is an ongoing enquiry into a simple question:
What comes alive in our dance?
About Jesús
Jesús Acosta came to dance looking for movement and stayed because of what it revealed about trust, presence and the way we meet one another.
His practice is rooted in partner dance, particularly tango, and shaped by years of dancing in spaces such as 5Rhythms and Movement as Medicine. It has also been informed by The Embodied Intimacy Training and The Field Facilitation Training, approaches that bring presence, consent, and relational awareness into how he moves and teaches.
He founded Dance in Conversation in 2020: a space about listening to ourselves, to another, and to what begins to emerge between us.
