About Event

When we launched our #celebrations channel last month, one of our first posts was from Riley McGhee, formerly COO at PVL:

To close out 2022, I finally launched our first internal “Wiki/Intranet/Handbook/etc”.

Whatever you want to call it, we’ve always had employee handbooks, contracts, and even SOPs for certain functions, but I finally pulled it all together into a single interface with links that reach out and hug all of our bits, bobs, and standalone google docs into what we call our WoW (PVL Ways of Working).

The irony is we have experts on our team that literally review this stuff for our clients to ensure they’re using the right language and messaging as it pertains to mental health and their wellbeing strategy… but hey, small start-ups have to start somewhere! (And yes, I did get plenty of advice from said team to help set up #convenient)

But more so celebrating the fact that I stared perfectionism in the face and said “Good is better than perfect!” … or “done is better than good?” However it goes… it’s a work in progress.

Thanks in advance for understanding what the hell I’m talking about - only in ops 😅

Obviously, we were all super proud of Riley's success - and many of us wanted to know the details about how he accomplished it. Luckily, Riley was on board with that, and so for this mini workshop, he'll indulge our curiosity and tell us all about his experience with building his company's internal knowledge management system.

💡 What you can expect:

  • The Why? What’s the benefit and thinking behind taking on this monumental task in the first place?

  • The What? What was the vision or structure for how it would work or what it would even look like?

  • The How? How did Riley bring it to life?

    • What tools did he look at and decide on?

    • The psychology / “the human element”

      • Externally - how does he make this work for the team so that they’ll actually use it and it’s not just "another thing"

      • Internally - how did he handle the massive overwhelm and overthinking that results from trying to complete an "infinity scroll"

  • Execution - how did he come to terms with infinity, and actually break it down into achievable chunks? AKA a brief lesson on goal setting/perfectionism.

✅ Who is this workshop for?

This is the workshop for you if:

  • You want to hear a true "war story" about what it takes to complete a documentation project.

  • You're about to start your own project and want inspiration and support from peers who understand what it's like.

  • You want to walk away feeling eager and ready to build your own company's documentation system.

⚠ Who is this workshop not for?

This is documentation 101 - it's probably not for you if you're expecting ready-made templates and shortcuts to accelerate your own project.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
