About Event

What if the most radical thing you did this year was let something rot?

As an official Future Days side event, Sporesight invites you to a mini masterclass in Growing the Decomposition Economy.

Ease out of your Future Days experience in a peaceful Copenhagen garden, being present in nature. Together we will learn from fungi how to let go, rot a little, and practice the ancient art of decomposition: how to unlock new forms of value by breaking things down.

Specifically, we’re going to decompose the systems of DEATH. In this tactile, playful and hands-in-mycelium session, we’ll apply fungal logic to economic thinking, dismantling and decomposing the economies of human remains, grief, ritual and legacy.

In nature death isn't the end of life, but part of a regenerative cycle. We will learn from nature’s most badass decomposers how to create new meaning, resources and value by breaking things down, and celebrate endings as new beginnings for regenerative growth.

You’ll ease away quietly radicalised with inspired possibility. We hope to leave you with a new conceptual lens, a mindset shift from growth to decomposition, and a spark for your own decomposition strategy (how cool would this be in your work?).

And, a mycelial gift to keep this practice alive in your home 🍄‍🟫

You'll also be part of the first cohort contributing to Sporesight's real-world proof of decomposition strategy. Learnings from this session get composted into our research, nourishing the next stage of rot and regeneration for European organisations ready to transition. (Curious about how this works? Get in touch.)

Who is this for? You don't need to know about economics, fungi, or regenerative thinking. You just need to be willing to let something go. This session is for anyone exhausted by extract-to-waste systems and curious about what grows next.

What to expect:

  • Be in nature; take a beat, re-orient.

  • Get out of your head and into your hands.

  • Become a decomposer mushroom.

  • Make a mess with mycelium.

  • Leave with a practice to apply in your work.

  • One thought to quietly dismantle economic assumptions.

Why are we doing this? Transitioning toward more equitable and sustainable economic systems requires a fundamental renegotiation of the meaning of “value”, and the courage to rot what isn't regenerative. Rather than asking what do we create next, let’s ask something older, stranger, and more useful: what needs to rot first? And what can we grow from the parts we're prepared to let go?

Who are we? Sporesight connects foresight and fungal intelligence to explore regenerative futures for organisations. We bring life-centric thinking into strategy, innovation, and futures design.

We love this work. Here are some generous things folks have had to say about previous Sporesight sessions:
