About the guest speaker
Based in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, James works as a Complex Systems Strategist for Western Canada-based ATCO Ventures, where he advises on integrating a systems-led, problem-informed approach to innovation.
He is the lead author of the book: The 55 Minutes: An atlas to navigate problems, reveal systems, and ask beautiful questions in a radically shifting world (2025).
James also holds concurrent appointments as Executive in Residence, J. Herbert Smith Centre for Technology Management & Entrepreneurship, University of New Brunswick, and Executive in Residence at Innovation North within Western University's Ivey School of Business.
He was previously a Visiting Fellow at the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship at the University of Oxford's Saïd Business School from 2024 to 2026.
Prior to this, James served for over a decade (2013-2024) as the founding Executive Director of the Institute for Community Prosperity at Mount Royal University and before this in a variety of executive and program design roles with the Toronto-based Gordon Foundation.
