DCC 007 | FREE MIND | a writing room for people with too many thoughts.
for overthinkers who can't switch off, this is a slow, guided reset.
venue: urban baristas, 20 paul street, london EC2A 4JH
session: 11:15am to 12:45pm
fee: £30 per person
the peace you're looking for can only be found in letting go of the thoughts that circle your mind. put them in a safe place, so your brain becomes a safe place.
free mind is a guided session built on cognitive crafting, a sequence of writing and reflection prompts drawn from established, evidence-backed techniques: expressive writing, naming what you're actually feeling, a moment of self-compassion, reframing what's changeable, and landing on one clear sentence to carry with you.
dopa fix is emotional regulation and self-reclamation through creativity, play, and curiosity. free mind is that belief in practice, a guided session built to reclaim your clarity by giving yourself space to hear your thoughts.
what to expect
a calm, unhurried session with a small group of people who also needed to get out of their heads for a while. you'll write (or draw, if that's more your vibe), guided through each stage, with soft music throughout, and everything laid out and ready when you arrive. you'll leave with your own dopa fix journal and one sentence worth holding onto.
what's included
a guided 90-minute session, built on the cognitive crafting sequence
creative materials: pens, fine liners, stickers, colouring pieces
soft music throughout
your own dopa fix journal (worth £34), zipped leather-look, built-in pen, bullet journal inside, internal pocket, yours to keep
urban baristas has a full drinks counter on site if you'd like something before we start; that's at your own cost and not included in the ticket price.
FAQ
what actually happens in the room? a sequence of short writing and reflection prompts, guided live, moving from a full brain dump through naming what's there to one clear sentence you take home. some steps are optional, and you'll always be told when.
do i need to be "good at" journaling? no. nothing here needs to be neat, complete, or shown to anyone. the page is yours.
will i have to share what i wrote? no. sharing is never required, at any point, but encouraged.
what if i've never done anything like this before? most people haven't. you'll be guided through every step, and there's no version of this you can get wrong.
what should i bring? just yourself. everything you need is provided.
can i get a drink there? yes, urban baristas has a full drinks counter. grab something before we start if you'd like, at your own cost.
is there a code of conduct? yes. dopa fix events are welcoming, respectful, and safe for everyone. we do not tolerate harassment or harmful behaviour of any kind.
will there be photography? yes, we sometimes capture moments from our sessions to share on dopa fix channels and the website. if you'd rather not be photographed, just let us know on the day, no questions asked.
before the day, what's the short form about? a few days before the session, you'll get a short private form: a couple quick questions, about a minute to fill in. we ask so we can make the day actually work for you.
is this the right session for me? free mind is built for sitting with the stuff that loops, the ongoing patterns, the things you carry day to day. it's not designed for a crisis that's happening right now. if you're in the middle of something acute, or a major situation that's still actively unfolding, this probably isn't the right session, and we'd rather you waited for one that is. get in touch beforehand if you're not sure.
