The Rest Day: For Grown-Ups Who Are Tired of Being Tired
If you’re exhausted, it’s probably not because you’re doing life “wrong”.
Most of us are living inside systems and expectations that ask far too much of us and then suggest the problem is personal when we start to feel worn down by it all. We’re encouraged to be resilient, adaptable, endlessly capable and then left wondering why we feel so burned out depleted.
When tiredness becomes your baseline, it’s easy to assume you just need a better routine, a longer holiday or a bit more willpower. But many of us are tired in ways sleep doesn’t touch and no amount of early nights will fix that.
That’s where The Rest Day comes in.
I’ve created a live, online experience for adults who are carrying a lot, holding things together on the outside but sensing that something deeper needs attention. This isn’t about escaping your real life for a couple of hours or pretending the pressures aren’t there. It’s about understanding why you’re tired, what kind of rest you actually need and how to stop living in a constant state of running on empty.
What this is (and what it isn’t)
This isn’t a meditation class, a yoga session or an exercise in positive thinking. You won’t be asked to breathe your way out of exhaustion or told that a better mindset will solve structural problems.
The session is grounded in research into the different types of rest humans need, far beyond sleep alone. Physical rest matters, of course, but so do mental, emotional, sensory, creative and social forms of rest, as well as a deeper kind of rest that comes from alignment, meaning and feeling at home in your own life.
Many of us have learned to push through tiredness, normalise it or patch it over with weekends and holidays. During The Rest Day, we slow things down and take a closer look at what’s really going on, exploring different kinds of rest not as abstract ideas, but as lived experiences.
Some moments will be quiet. Some will be reflective. Some may feel surprisingly revealing. Everything will be optional, humane and rooted in the reality of adult life. You won’t be forced to share anything you don’t want to and you won’t be put on the spot. You will, however, be invited to pay attention to yourself in a way most of us rarely get the space or time to do.
Who it’s for
You’ll likely get a lot from this if you feel tired all the time, even when you’re technically doing everything “right”; if rest feels like something you have to earn rather than something you’re allowed to need; if you’re holding a lot emotionally with very few places to put it down; or if you suspect there’s more going on than simply needing a break.
If you’re looking for something you can half-listen to while answering emails or scrolling in the background, this probably isn’t the right fit. But if you’re willing to show up, be present and give yourself a couple of hours of proper attention, you’ll feel the difference.
What you’ll leave with
By the end of the session, you’ll have a clearer understanding of why you’re tired in a way that brings relief (we don’t play the blame game round here). You’ll begin to see which kinds of rest have been missing from your life, which ones matter most for you and how to start weaving them into the life you actually have, rather than an imagined one with endless free time.
Perhaps most importantly, you’ll leave with a sense that your tiredness finally makes sense, that you’re not broken and that rest isn’t a luxury you’ve failed to earn. It’s something you’re allowed to need.
A quick note about it being free
This is a pilot session.
I’m in the process of building the full Rest Day experience and want to test parts of it live with real people first. In return for coming, I’ll ask you to stay for a short reflection at the end so I can learn what resonated, what didn’t and what you’d want more of.
Rather than sending you away with a survey and hoping for the best, we’ll talk properly at the end of the session and I’ll take notes so the next iteration is shaped by your real experiences.
About me
I’m Dulcie, the founder of WorkWell.
I’ve spent nearly twenty years working in innovation, leadership and strategy, and I’ve seen first-hand how normalised exhaustion has become, particularly for people who care deeply, think critically and take their responsibilities seriously. Over time, I’ve become less interested in helping people push harder and much more interested in helping them live well enough to enjoy the lives they’re already building.
WorkWell is rooted in a simple belief: you are not meant to sacrifice your health, joy, or sense of self to achieve the life you desire. Rest isn’t weakness and it certainly isn’t indulgence. It’s part of how we stay well enough to live lives that actually belong to us.
If that resonates, you’re very welcome here.
