Angel Investing 101: A Practical Guide for Women Getting Started
Curious about angel investing but not sure where to start? This session is a beginner-friendly look at how angel investing actually works, from speakers who know both sides of the deal.
Molly Morse is Co-Founder & COO of Recess. She has both raised angel money as a founder and written angel checks as an investor, so she’s sat on both sides of the table.
Elizabeth Coston McCluskey is Managing Director at TruStage VC and a seasoned angel investor.
Together they’ll cover:
Who can invest: the income and asset requirements, plus ways to start before you qualify
Why invest: the upside, the impact, and an honest look at the risks
How to start: courses and resources, key terms, and where good deals come from
Where to invest: being an LP in a fund vs. joining syndicates, angel platforms, or investing solo, including differences in diligence, control, and fees
What to invest in: building a thesis, doing diligence, and balancing a portfolio
When: when to invest, and when (realistically) to expect money back
The founder’s view: what raising from angels looks like from the startup side, from what founders share to how often you’ll hear from them
The last 20 minutes are for your questions. A few other experienced angels will join to help answer questions and share different perspectives. You’ll also get a list of investor communities to join and an invite to a WhatsApp group for ongoing questions.
Just bring your curiosity.
