

Salt, Sand & Solstice: Beach Hike
βJoin us for a gentle beach and trail walk as we welcome the Summer for a hike along the bluffs!
βπΊοΈ TRAIL
βWe are hiking the Sunken Meadow Trail. This is an easy to moderate level hike, about 4.2 miles with some hills and an elevation gain of around 400 feet. the Greenbelt Trail follows the edge of the bluffs, offering some amazing views of the Long Island Sound. We will venture up through the woods for a walk along some of these high ground trails. π No dogs on this trail.

βPlace: Sunken Meadow Field 3 Parking Lot, Sunken Meadow State Park, Kings Park.
βLook for the southeast corner of the lot near the kayak launch. Parking requires a vehicle fee ($8/car). NY State Empire Pass accepted. Please try to arrive 10 minutes early to accommodate for parking and finding each other.
βBathrooms available at trailhead.
ββοΈ AFTER
βPost-hike we will meet at a cafe (TBD) to use restrooms, get a coffee, share photos, and decompress. This is totally optional and up to you and your car crew's schedule.
βπ₯Ύ WHAT TO BRING
βSturdy walking shoes or hiking boots (some sections are uneven or rooty)
βWater (no water fountains on trail)
βTick spray (high tick area, especially in spring)
βSnack
βLayers (mornings near the Sound can be breezy and cool)
βSunscreen (bluff sections are open and exposed)
βLight rain jacket (coastal weather can shift quickly)
βπ CARPOOLING
We will send carpool pairings via text about 48-24 hours in advance of the hike. Most drivers are in north Brooklyn or LIC. Just make sure to give your neighborhood in the RSVP so we can pair you with the best crew.
βπ A FEW HELPFUL NOTES
βParking requires a vehicle fee of $8/car (NY State Empire Pass accepted). No dogs on this trail. Cell service can be spotty so download the AllTrails map offline before you go. The hike follows the bluff edge in sections so keep an eye on footing and stay on trail. If there has been recent rain, expect muddy patches so plan your footwear accordingly.
βWeather policy We hike in light rain! We will only cancel in the case of dangerous conditions like severe wind, storms, or lightning. Keep an eye on for any updates closer to the date.
βThis is a relaxed, low pressure gathering. Come as you are and walk at your own pace.
