About Event

Autumn is here in all its glory of crisp mornings and changing leaves. And like many of you, my oven is staying warm and ready for fall baking and holiday treats. Join us for a low-key afternoon gathering to share some autumn treats and share your baking plans, challenges, and aspirations for the holiday season. You'll meet home bakers across experience levels excited to chat and share their tips.

What to Expect

Bake Talk is a relaxed midday hangout for anyone who loves to bake, whether you've been proofing bread for years or are just starting to expand beyond store-bought cake mix. We'll swap tips and stories around a table of homemade treats. Bring your questions, curiosity, and experience to the chat:

  • Fall and winter baking plans: what's on your list this season

  • Holiday favorites: family traditions and the recipes you make every year

  • Challenges and wishlists: recent fails, techniques you're struggling with, and what you want to learn how to make next

  • Home baking tips: the tricks you've picked up along the way

We'll have coffee and tea on hand, courtesy of our host, Fabrik. I'll bring disposable plates, napkins, plasticware, and take home boxes, but otherwise, this one is simple. When you sign up, consider making a donation to help me cover these basic costs.

How to Prepare:

  • RSVP

  • Bring one home-baked treat — ready to share. It doesn't have to be fancy. Coffee and tea are on us. No time to bake? No problem — pick up something from your favorite shop to share.

  • A Microwave and fridge are available. We'll have plates, cups, and silverware on hand.

Letters from the Table
Letters from the Table is a project exploring the ways food connects us with people, places, memories, and the present moment. It is a series of love letters and a platform for creating connection through storytelling and intentional gatherings. Our mission is to highlight the stories of people who express themselves through food, and connect emerging food brands with an audience that is deeply interested in their work.

FAQ

Do I have to cook and bring a dish to share?
This is a potluck event designed for folks who love to bake and explore the perspectives, cultures and history shared through cookbooks, but we get it. Schedules get busy, and it's not always possible to cook something for a weekday event. In a pinch, pick up something to share that fits the theme. As Ina Garten says, "store-bought is fine"!

How do you handle allergies and food safety?
This is a potluck where we share home-baked dishes. We expect attendees to use common-sense food handling and storage when preparing for and participating in the event. We have a microwave and refrigerator on site for reheating or keeping food cool. However, if you are concerned about food safety or storage during transit, consider bringing a dish that is safe to store and serve at room temperature.

Consider bringing a dish that is gluten-free, vegan, or free of common allergens so that as many folks as possible can try your dish. If you do have strong allergies, be aware that we are gathering in a shared space and can't guarantee an allergen-free environment.

Can I receive a refund for my ticket?
We use RSVPs to plan for the number of attendees and ticket pricing to cover our costs in hosting. Unfortunately, we cannot grant refunds, but you are welcome to pass your ticket on to someone else. Please reach out to us at least 24 hours before the event with any questions or to transfer your ticket to a friend.
