ADHD: Managing Emotions in Relationships
📅 27th May | 🕢 7:30pm
I teach emotional regulation because I know what it feels like to be overwhelmed. I know what it feels like to have people depending on you, while you’re trying to hold yourself together.
I know what it feels like to be a mum, a carer, a working mum, and still have moments where I thought, I should be coping better than this.
There have been times in my life where I reacted from stress, fear, pressure, exhaustion, or old pain because I didn’t understand what was happening inside me. I thought being strong meant pushing through, keeping going, holding it all together. However, I came to learn that real strength is not pretending you’re fine it's being honest enough to notice when you need to reach out ask for support and find a way to manage those emotions.
I had to get being brave enough to face myself, learn how to pause before reacting, learn how to communicate what I was feeling without destroying the connection with the people I love the most.
That is why I went on to do the work I do today, I believe so many relationships are not broken because people don’t love each other but because they are reacting from pain they have never been taught how to understand.
If you’ve ever looked back and thought, Why did I react like that?
You are not alone, if this feels personal to you too, you’re probably in the right place and you are most welcome at my next event where you will understand why you get triggered and react the way you do and learn the solution for changing your behaviour.
