EERA JP ESI Workshop: Supporting technology development & integration from an energy-systems integration perspective
Energy systems around the world are transitioning towards sustainable energy to reduce emissions and limit the effects of climate change. EERA’s Joint Programme “Energy Systems Integration” (JP-ESI) supports policymakers, system operators or investors through its unique “system integration” lens, but engages much less with energy-technology developers or technology integrators. However, these actors could also benefit from an energy system integration-perspective, e.g., on the probability of a sufficient return on investment, requirements for novel technologies from the perspective of the system or market or the social justice of new technologies.
This workshop, organised by EERA’s JP ESI, aims to connect (i) all PhD candidates and junior researchers of its members that are working on this theme and (ii) researchers of all JPs’ members focussing on technology development and/or its impact on society and the economy (e.g., JP Energy Storage, JP Wind, JP Geothermal, JP CCS or JP E3S).
The format of the workshop is geared towards active participation in focus groups. The workshop will provide the opportunity to discuss ongoing research and indentify new challenges, bringing together researchers from technology development on the one hand and JP ESI on the other hand.
Junior researchers working at JP-ESI members are invited to submit abstracts for poster presentations. Researchers from other EERA JP’s are invited to submit challenges from their perspectives and raise questions they have for energy systems integration-researchers. The posters will serve as a starting point for the discussion in focus groups. The challenges submitted by other EERA JP’s will guide the organization of the focus groups.
Attandence without contribution is also possible, but active participation in the focus groups is expected.
