About Event

Join us at the historic Great Star Theater in Chinatown for a "Bruce Lee Double Feature with Saikat Chakrabarti," an evening of film and conversation inspired by one of the most iconic figures in Asian American cultural history.

Bruce Lee was more than a martial artist or movie star. He changed how Asians were seen on screen and refused to accept the limits society placed on him. He did not simply succeed within an existing system. Instead, he challenged expectations, broke through constraints, and expanded what seemed possible. His story also speaks to a broader Asian American experience shaped by migration, exclusion, adaptation, and reinvention.

Across generations, Asian Americans have had to find their place in a society that often saw them narrowly or not at all. Bruce Lee’s legacy endures not only because of his talent but because of the presence he established: self-defined, unapologetic, and impossible to ignore. That spirit still resonates today.

The question is no longer just how to succeed within the rules, but whether the frame itself needs to change. What does it mean not only to adapt, but to expand what is possible? What does it mean not only to be shaped by the world, but to help shape it in return?

Between the two film screenings, Saikat Chakrabarti and special guests will reflect on these themes and what they mean in this moment.
