OSW X Hacktoberfest 2026
Hacktoberfest has always been about empowering people to build open software together. For years, that energy was measured by pull requests and developers making their first open-source contributions. But open source was never defined by a PR counter. Open source is a philosophy centered on transparency and collective ownership.
In an era where AI tools make low-effort PRs easier than ever to generate, maintainers face unprecedented volume and noise. This year, Hacktoberfest is focused on high-value, meaningful learning: giving everyone the tools and knowledge to experiment and build with open artificial intelligence.
How to Participate https://hacktoberfest.com/fests/
Hacktoberfest 2026 is here, and this year it's all about open-source AI. Join us in Ahmedabad for a full-day Hack Day, a mini hackathon where you'll build real projects with open-source tools and open-weight models.
Whether you're writing your first line of code or shipping to production every week, there's a place for you. Show up with a laptop and an idea (or just curiosity), team up with other builders, and leave with something you made.
What you can build and explore:
Write your first open-source skills.md or build your own AI agent
Run open-weight models locally with tools like Ollama
Integrate an open model into an app, bot, or workflow
Fine-tune a model or experiment with open-source agent frameworks
Or follow your own idea, as long as it uses open-source AI
What to expect:
Short kickoff talk and starter resources to get you going
Mentors on hand to help when you're stuck
Project demos at the end of the day
Food and drinks, plus swag and prizes for top projects
No prior AI experience needed. AI belongs to everyone.
What to bring: your laptop, charger, and a project idea if you have one.
We are having amazing Topics & Speakers as followed, Lets talk about #OpenSource #OpenTalk
