✦ ThAT Thursdays: Fellowship Seminar Series
We are pleased to launch the inaugural session of the Thinking About Thinking Fellowship Seminar Series, a new programme bringing together researchers and entrepreneurs working at the forefront of intelligence across AI, neuroscience and cognitive science.
Seminar title: Automated Scientific Discovery of Mind and Behavior
Speaker: Prof. Sebastian Musslick
Date: Thursday 7 May 2026
Time: 6pm BST
For our first session, Prof Sebastian Musslick of Osnabrück University and Visiting Faculty at Brown University will present a framework for automated scientific discovery in cognitive science. The talk will explore how AI systems can support the generation and testing of theories of mind and behaviour.
He will introduce AutoRA, an open source framework designed to automate key stages of empirical research, including experimental design, data collection and model inference. Drawing on case studies across psychophysics, learning, decision making and cognitive control, the session will examine how closed loop discovery systems can enable more scalable and integrative approaches to understanding human cognition.
The discussion will also address key challenges for the field, including experimental fragmentation, the need for multi level explanations and future directions for automated scientific discovery.

About the series
ThAT Fellowship Seminars are designed to give our Academic Fellowship community direct access to leading thinkers working across intelligence research and innovation.
For a limited time, the first sessions will be open to the wider Thinking About Thinking network as an introduction to the Fellowship.
