ETH Validators Workshop 1: A Walkthrough on Solo Staking
Mark your calendars for March 11, 6-8pm SGT as we dive into the world of Ethereum Validators and the ins and outs of solo staking.
We're super excited to roll out the education phase of the College DAO Validator Program, with our first cluster in APAC leading the charge with this teach-in by Samuel from Stakesaurus who will be unpacking everything from solo staking to validator networks.
Why This is Gonna Be Awesome
We'll be getting direct mentorship from seasoned Ethereum validator operators and solo stakers. This session would be introducing the valuable skills required to run testnet and mainnet validators, which would be crucial in installing nodes at universities or for opening career options at major blockchain companies.
And the best part?
This unlocks further opportunities for clubs and university teams to join in on later phases of our validator program.
Whether you're diving into blockchain for the first time or you're looking to beef up your technical knowledge, this workshop is where you want to be.
This session is brought to you in collaboration with our club network at NTU Blockchain, SMU Blockchain, APU Blockchain & Cryptocurrency Club, and SUTD Blockchain.
So tune in, ask those burning questions, and connect with peers who are just as excited about blockchain as you are.
What's on the Menu?
Knowing how to run Ethereum validator nodes opens up a new way of monetisation for individuals, creators, community builders, and DAOs. By using upcoming tools - e.g. the ethStaker community, DVTs like Obol and SSV Network, Stakewise V3, Rocketpool, Stader, Divastaking, this monetisation channel can be highly capital efficient and scalable - i.e. monetise without needing to lock up 32 ETH for Ethereum
Individuals: Run validator nodes for others and take a 5% - 10% fee from the rewards generated - e.g. Running 10 validators on behalf of others takes ~20 minutes per month for an additional income equivalent to 33% - 50% of minimum wage.
Creators: Offer a “stake-to-subscribe” model for your content
Community builders: Run your own ETH staking mini pool so that your members can stake their ETH with you instead of large incumbent staking pools
DAOs: Run your own ETH staking mini pool and use your own staked ETH as a voting mechanism instead of issuing your own tokens. Allows DAOs to signal higher Ethereum alignment and avoid ponzi-like mechanisms and user behaviour that are unavoidable with issuing own tokens
For this workshop, here are what we'll need from you!
1. A laptop
2. Google Cloud account with free trial activated. Credit card details are needed but it won't be charged under the free trial - https://cloud.google.com/free
3. ETH wallet address using Metamask - https://metamask.io/download/
4. Pre-approve your ETH wallet address to deposit Holesky ETH into your testnet validator

About College DAO and Stakesaurus
College DAO is the largest and fastest-growing network building education infrastructure to integrate Web3 at 100+ universities worldwide. We bridge the gap between students, higher education and blockchain protocols to empower students to build and expand the talent pool in Web3 for the next decade.
Stakesaurus helps people get started on their journey to become node operators. We are building a grassroots community of solo node operators in SEA as we believe this skillset has the power to uplift the lives of people significantly as long as they are willing to put in the work.
