Solo | The exhibition by Sue Morais

​An exploration of identity, resilience and becoming.

SOLO holds two meanings: In Portuguese, the artist’s first language, it means ground: the place she comes from, where she once stood firmly. In English, it means alone: the ongoing journey of building a self on the other side of the world.

​For Brazilian-born, Sydney-based artist Sue Morais, collage is how that new ground is made. Through mixed-media collage, she explores identity as something never fixed, never one colour or one shape. Cut apart and rearranged, images become new forms and create new meanings. The works reflect on the ongoing process of becoming, revealing what happens in between.
