About Event

Join us for day of wetland restoration in celebration of the beaver, willow, and winter work! There will be opportunity to participate in plantings in the wetland as part of a large scale restoration project, share food, make connections, and learn in a series of micro-workshops and lectures about weaving, charcoal, herbalism, and ecology with local teachers throughout the day.

This is a free event open to all. Please register if you plan on attending so we know how many folks to expect!

This event is part of Willow Week 2026, the first Annual Hemispheric Willow Festival!

Across the cool temperate North, people and other animals will be cutting withies, weaving, stripping bark, planting sticks, chewing on cambium, building beaver dams, making medicine, burning, regenerating, considering their watersheds and paying homage to the humble willow in every way they know how. The whole world is invited to celebrate Willow Festival by tending their local willow patch, stabilizing stream banks, cleaning water, organizing parties and workshops, and more!

About the wetland restoration project

The site is an 11 acre wetland that is recovering from a century of mismanagement and neglect. Over the past 4 years, friends and neighbors have gathered to plant willows and other native wetland species together, an easy way to help shade out the aggressive non-native grasses and provide forage for beavers, native pollinators, and reclaim fish and amphibian habitat. This will be our fourth annual Beaverfest! Join us in this community-wide effort to pay homage to our beloved local watersheds and to share the gratifying work of caring for this wetland.

Accessibility

All ages and abilities welcome! This event will happen rain or shine. There is no paved access to the work/workshop site. Access via the parking space is a short walk on uneven, muddy terrain. There will be covered outdoor spaces for gathering and participating in workshops. There is no indoor bathroom access, but there will be a simple composting toilet at the site.
