Funding the Frontier - JNCASR x ARIA
ARIA is the UK's moonshot research funding agency. We build £50M funding programmes enabling entire research ecosystems to reach for the edge of the possible.
This event will run in two parts. You are welcome to select any one or stay for both.
Open to faculty members, scientists, postdoctoral researchers, research scholars, and innovators from academic and research institutions in Bengaluru.
Session 1:
Intro to ARIA and our upcoming funding opportunities.
A Q&A panel with the ARIA team.
Session 2:
An opportunity to pitch or design new research funding programmes with ARIA.
This will be an informal gathering to uncover what new areas we should fund. Please express your interest to join this session during sign-up! Over the course of the event, we will design potential new programmes in collaboration with attendees and reveal some of our early thinking on new directions to get feedback.
Over the day, we will both hear and present pitches on new programme areas that:
Lead to a 100X change.
Connect ideas that haven't been linked before.
Have little proof of concept in existing scientific literature but are physically plausible.
Lead to drastic simplification.
Speakers
Dr. Ivan Jayapurna (Programme Director @ ARIA): Ivan joined ARIA from the University of California, Berkeley, with a PhD in materials science and engineering. While studying, Ivan co-led several tech spinout efforts, was twice funded by the National Science Foundation I-Corps, and co-founded a technical consultancy for biotech startups. At ARIA, he leads the Universal Fabricators programme and is one of the two programme directors in the Abundant Manufacturing space.
Dr. Aayush Chadha (Frontier Specialist @ ARIA): Aayush joined ARIA from Entrepreneur First where he was building a neurotech startup. A material scientist by background, Aayush works across ARIA's initiatives in manufacturing, neurotechnologies and AI for Science.
