About Event

A 90-minute working session to make it easier to send the right people your way.

She wanted to make sure not to leave anyone out.

So she thought asking for founders wasn't good because it might not cover everyone she could help.

I see this a lot. People are struggling to find a word that includes everything they want people to think of.

But it's backwards.

was struggling with asking for founders because it might not cover everyone she could help.

She thought "founders" wasn't working because it might not cover everyone she could help.

She wanted to make sure not to leave anyone out.

didn't want to leave anyone out.

But she's heading the wrong way.

I recently asked someone who she wanted to meet.

“Founders.”

It made sense. She works with all kinds of founders, and she wanted a word broad enough to cover all of them.

That's the problem.

When someone asks who you want to meet, you're probably thinking:

“How do I make sure I don't leave anyone out?”

But the person listening has a different job:

They have to think of someone.

“Founders” might accurately describe hundreds of people you could help.

But did an actual founder come to mind?

Let's make the people you want to meet more recognizable.

In this 90-minute working session, we'll take the broad answer you're giving people now and make it easier for your network to recognize someone they could actually send your way.

We'll start with a simple challenge:

If you only had three words to tell the room who you wanted to meet, what would they be?

Your final answer doesn't have to be three words.

The constraint forces you to decide what matters.

Then we'll try your words out.

You'll hear what other people picture when they hear them — and whether anyone actually comes to mind.

You'll:

  • Get more specific about who you want to meet

  • Use the Three Words exercise to narrow your thinking

  • Test your words with the group

  • Hear who other people actually picture

  • Make the people you're looking for more recognizable

This isn't a presentation where you sit and take notes.

We'll work on your ask.

Bring the answer you're giving people now. We'll start there.

Limited to 10 people so everyone gets a chance to work through their ask.
