With guest speaker, Lori Carter. Lori’s curiosity drew her to pursue an education degree after completing her BSc in agriculture; however, she chose to educate in other fields rather than in schools. Her curiosity then led her to a Masters in Resource and Environmental Management at Dalhousie University, and then her journey west.

Now, Lori is the founder of LJ Carter Consulting Services, where she works as an environmental compliance and regulatory literacy consultant, speaker, and educator. She helps people understand and meet the requirements that shape projects. Her work centres on regulatory literacy: making sure the people who write, read, and carry out requirements are working from the same meaning and understanding.

With more than 15 years of experience, Lori has worked across the full life of environmental approvals, from pre-development field work and writing approval conditions to reviewing plans, monitoring construction, and inspecting projects for compliance.

At the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Office, Lori founded the Management Plan Team, which reviews the plans projects must develop and follow to meet their approval conditions. She co-created a template approval condition for plans that reduce the risk of gender-based violence on major projects. She also worked as a compliance and enforcement officer.

As a consultant in the field, Lori was an independent environmental monitor on a major hydroelectric project in BC, checking that requirements were met on behalf of regulators. And early in her career she was a mining inspector in Dawson City, Yukon.

Registration closes November 23rd at 6PM.
