Toward Collective Action: Roundtable on Safe & Trusted AI
Side Event | India AI Impact Summit
Join us at the India AI Impact Summit for a focused roundtable examining how commitments to safe and trusted artificial intelligence can be translated into coordinated, inclusive, and actionable governance, particularly from an African perspective.
This roundtable convenes African policymakers, researchers, civil society, and innovation leaders to explore how the region can meaningfully engage in safe and trusted AI governance. The discussion will focus on translating commitments into practice, strengthening coordination across stakeholders, and addressing underexplored AI safety risks, including catastrophic and dual-use risks such as cyber, bio, and disinformation threats.
Panel includes: leading voices from academia, policy, and civil society, including Prof. Jonathan Shock (Associate professor in the Department of Maths and Applied Maths; Director of the UCT AI Initiative at the University of Cape Town), Kola Ijasan (Research Director, Research ICT Africa), Amb. Philip Thigo, MBS (Special Envoy on Technology, for H.E the President of the Republic of Kenya), Dr. Chinasa T. Okolo (Founder, Technecultura; Policy AI Specialist, UN Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies), Mark Gaffley (Director of Legal & Operations, Center of Global AI Governance)
The session will feature brief opening reflections followed by an interactive, moderated discussion aimed at sharing insights, identifying practical pathways for collaboration, and contributing to the broader outcomes of the India AI Impact Summit.
