Golden Gate Bridge Marin Headlands Sausalito
We’re taking on one of the Bay Area’s most iconic routes—crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, climbing into the Marin Headlands, and descending into Sausalito for great views and a scenic finish!
Route Overview
Meet at the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center
Meet at the Welcome Center plaza at 10:00 a.m. After a quick briefing and group intro, we’ll head right onto the bridge walkway.
Walk Across the Golden Gate Bridge
Take in sweeping, panoramic views of the bay, San Francisco skyline, and the Pacific Ocean as we cross the full span of the bridge to the Marin side (approx. 1.7 miles).
Marin Headlands Trails
Ascend into the rugged Marin Headlands via coastal trails, taking in elevated overlooks and historic battery viewpoints looking back over the gate and open ocean.
Descend into Sausalito
Wind our way down the hills into downtown Sausalito, where we’ll wrap up the hike near the waterfront around 2:00 p.m.
Information
Level: Moderate/intermediate. Be comfortable walking approximately 8 miles, including steady climbs, bridge wind, and uneven dirt trail surfaces.

Distance: Approximately 8 miles, one way.
Time: 10:00 a.m. to about 2:30 p.m., including snack and photo breaks. All times and distances are approximate.
Finish: Downtown Sausalito near the ferry terminal. This hike does not return to the starting point. You can take the ferry back to San Francisco (Ferry Building or Pier 41) or take Bus 120 back to where we started or coordinate rides home independently.
What to bring: Plenty of water, snacks and/or a packed lunch, comfortable walking shoes, layers (the bridge and headlands get very windy and chilly), sunscreen, and a transit card/cash for the ferry home.
Reminder
Dress in layers for changing coastal weather and allow extra travel time for parking around the Golden Gate Bridge. Please check the event page for any updates before heading out.
