**Bias in Admissions: Interviews and Family Interactions

​In this session, participants will discuss how the questions asked, the responses accepted, and views towards families can influence a family's likelihood of admission. Additionally, participants will reflect on their own bias during interactions with families and leave with tools to critically analyze their interview processes.

​SPEAKER: Laycee Thigpen, M.S.Ed., is an educator, researcher, and Lead Consultant with Reinking Education Consulting. She partners with schools and organizations to build more inclusive, culturally responsive environments and translate principles of belonging into practical, sustainable action. Laycee began her career as an early childhood educator, spending eight years teaching in childcare and Head Start programs. She has since served as an instructor and coach for pre-service and practicing teachers, designed and directed children’s programming, and facilitated professional development focused on recognizing bias, challenging stereotypes, and creating racially inclusive learning environments. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
