Performing Under Pressure: Sport, Art and Life in a Hotter World
Sport and performing arts have always pushed the limits of the human body. Now the climate is setting new ones. Rising temperatures are already reshaping what's possible in, at every level - from dancers and athletes needing more water breaks, to singers finding it hard to breathe in stadiums and community footballers having to skip training on summer evenings.
So, what does it take to keep performing in a hotter world? How does sport, dance and theatre adapt - and lead?
This session brings together athletes, scientists, artists and performance specialists to explore the physiological limits of heat - what actually happens to the human body under extreme temperature, and where the limits lie - before turning to the new strategies emerging in training, preparation and recovery.
Because in a warming world, this isn't just an elite problem. It's a public health one.
