Startup Lab: Where's The Patient / Customer (WTP) Workshop
As a health tech innovator how do you ensure that you truly engage your patient and/ or customer in a meaningful way in your product development and roadmap?
Traditionally, healthcare has operated under models where things are done to patients or for them. But we need to move towards doing things with patients - and ideally, learning from them. Patients and caregivers should be involved from the start, helping to design and create resources, not just reviewing them after the fact.
Join us here at Hale House for our August Startup Lab with Mark Duman, Patient Engagement Pioneer at Illuminate PE. Mark, a former clinician, has 30+ years’ of consulting and lived experience across the NHS, The King’s Fund and founded the Patient Information Forum which promotes shared decision-making and improves the quality of information for patients.
Mark will host an interactive workshop exploring The 3Cs of Patient Engagement - see a taster/ 2 min pre-read here. The workshop will start with a 25 minute masterclass on the 3Cs along with some case studies to bring the theory to life.
We will then open up the floor to the group and jointly explore:
How well have you mapped your patient (caregiver/ customer) journey(s)?
What methods do you use to gather insight from them?
What do they like / not like? Any WOW moments?
What educational / on-boarding material do you provide?
What patient advocacy groups do / could you work with?
How do you evaluate the impact your product / service has on patients?
What research projects could you conduct with and for patients e.g. NIHR / academic?
Mark is also offering a number of attendees 45 minute 1-2-1 ‘clinics’ in the afternoon. This would start with an elevator pitch from you which he will candidly critique. Then you share your current challenges and Mark will try to suggest solutions and / or people who could assist.
