Across Europe, mayors are finding new ways to share decisions with the people they serve. With the People, a short documentary directed by Loraine Blumenthal and produced by the Better Politics Foundation in partnership with Mayors of Europe, follows three mayors in Stockholm, Poznań and Bologna as they put this into practice.
Loraine and Suki Capobianco, Co-CEO of the Better Politics Foundation, will introduce the film. Suki will then lead a conversation with German local leaders, including:
Prof. Dr. Roland Schröder, Mayor of Menden (Sauerland), 2020–2025
Susanne Zels, newly elected Volt member of the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district assembly
Together they’ll ask what these examples mean for German towns and districts: what could work here, what stands in the way, and what support leaders need to govern more inclusively.
Can’t make the screening? Come for drinks afterwards. We’d love to see you for an evening of conversation on local government, participation, political leadership and the bigger questions of freedom and democracy at the heart of Berlin Freedom Week.
Hope to see you there!
Warm regards,
The Better Politics Foundation team
