Business Lunch Club with Geraldine Slattery
The perfect opportunity to network, enjoy great food, drinks and thought-provoking conversations with a guest presentation each month.
Inside BHP: Leadership, Competition & Australia's Resources Future
Our November Business Club Lunch welcomes Geraldine Slattery, President Australia at BHP, the country's largest mining company, for an in-depth conversation on leadership, business performance and the future of Australia's resources sector.
Geraldine leads BHP's Australian iron ore, copper, nickel, metallurgical coal and energy coal operations across several states. With more than 30 years of experience in the resources sector, she is one of the most senior leaders in Australian industry.
Originally from County Kerry, Ireland, Geraldine grew up on a dairy farm, where she developed a strong work ethic and an enduring curiosity about how things work. She went on to study physics before completing a Master of Science in International Management (Oil & Gas).
Joining BHP in the mid-1990s, Geraldine progressed through a series of engineering, operational and executive leadership roles. Prior to her appointment as President Australia in October 2022, she served as President of BHP Petroleum, leading the company's global oil and gas business from the United States. Earlier this year, she also assumed responsibility for Copper South Australia, bringing all of BHP's Australian operating assets under her leadership.
Geraldine is Vice-Chair of the Minerals Council of Australia and is recognised for her focus on safety, operational performance and building strong relationships with communities and Traditional Owners. She credits her parents with encouraging her to pursue education and broaden her horizons, and advocates for competitiveness as a fundamental driver of effective leadership and business success.
At this Business Club Lunch, former The Age journalist and editor Seamus Bradley will lead a conversation and audience Q&A with Geraldine, exploring her career from County Kerry to the executive leadership of one of Australia's most significant companies. The discussion will examine leadership at scale, the importance of competitiveness, and the opportunities and challenges shaping the future of Australia's resources industry.
Join us for a timely and insightful discussion with one of Australia's leading business figures.
