About Event

About Event

Most LPs still gate their allocation decisions on track record, a proxy that does not work for Emerging VCs. This means that many LPs miss out on really high caliber emerging managers, because they are unable to conduct diligence on these new managers.

Some LPs are therefore using a different framework to evaluate emerging VCs. They evaluate the GP the way sophisticated GPs evaluate founders: on mindset, decision quality, and resilience, all of which predict future performance better than realized returns.

In this 60-minute session, Aram Attar of The VC Factory sits down with Myrto Lalacos of The Emerging VC and walks emerging GPs through his Mindset-Based Investing framework built from studying how top LPs like Beezer Clarkson, Michael Kim, and Samir Kaji select emerging managers.

The angle is flipped for you: understand what sophisticated LPs are really assessing, so you can pitch with intent and stop wasting cycles on the wrong LPs.

What we'll cover:

  • The four rules the best LPs use to evaluate emerging managers, and how to demonstrate each of them in a pitch

  • Why track record is a weaker signal than most LPs realise, and what the sophisticated ones look for instead

  • How to identify LPs who evaluate mindset (worth pursuing at your stage) vs LPs who only look at data (better to skip)

  • How to prepare for the LP conversations that will make or break your raise

Who should attend:

Emerging GPs raising Fund I or II. Aspiring fund managers preparing to enter their first LP conversations. Any GP frustrated by LPs asking for a track record they do not have.

About the speaker

Aram Attar is founder of The VC Factory and creator of Mindset-Based Investing, a framework for improving capital allocation in venture. He spent 20 years in LBOs, Growth Equity, and Venture Capital, completing more than 50 transactions across three continents, before founding The VC Factory in 2018. His research on how top LPs select emerging managers, including his report Emerging VCs: Selection Through Mindset, is the foundation of this session.

About the host

Myrto Lalacos is the founder of The Emerging VC, an independent platform for the next generation of fund managers. After years inside VC and helping launch more than 1,900 emerging GPs at VC Lab, Myrto now writes, hosts, and convenes the conversations that shape how the new generation of fund managers and VC leaders think and build.
