Diverse Futures (S1E4): Life Before JumpNet

Northern Commons is hosting a series of lectures and discussions. Each session in the Diverse Futures series features a different presenter and their view of what the future can be if we embrace diversity rather than try to contain or eradicate it. The final presentation of 2026 is Life Before JumpNet with Patrick Stein

Come with us into the future. Imagine a future where advances in quantum mechanics have made it possible to zip around the world in just a few milliseconds while at the same time making it impossible for financial institutions to move money around the globe in a wink. What would such a future hold?

Join us for an immersive experience. We will hop on the JumpNet to converge at Northern Commons. JumpNet historian Patrick Stein will lead us through the wonders of our modern life by recounting the many ways that JumpNet has allowed us to be us.

Here are some things you might like to know if this is your first visit to Northern Commons.

This event is pay-what-you-want. Certainly, we want you to attend even if $0 is the right amount for you. At the same time, Northern Commons is donation-funded, so if you like what we're doing, want to see more of it, and can spare some funds, we would much appreciate it.
