HFC Valuation Case Competition

Learn valuation. Build the model. Defend your conclusions.

High Finance Club is launching its first Valuation Case Competition: a hands-on program designed to help students move beyond financial theory and experience how valuation works in practice.

Over approximately 6–8 weeks, participants will work through a valuation case, develop their technical skills, collaborate with other students, and produce a professional-style valuation presentation supported by Excel models.

Whether you’re exploring investment banking, private equity, or equity research, this is an opportunity to develop practical skills that are directly relevant to a career in finance.

What will you work on?

Trading Comparables Analysis (CCA)
Learn how to value a company by analyzing similar publicly traded businesses, comparing financial metrics, and applying valuation multiples.

Precedent Transactions Analysis (PTA)
Explore how comparable acquisitions can help establish valuation benchmarks and understand the premiums buyers have paid for businesses.

Financial Modeling in Excel
Build and work with valuation models, understand the assumptions behind your analysis, and learn how to present your findings clearly.

Valuation Presentation
Translate your analysis into a structured, investment-banking-style pitchbook, supported by detailed Excel models and backup slides.

How will the competition work?

The competition is planned to run over approximately 6–8 weeks.

  • Learn: Develop your understanding of valuation methodologies using Wall Street Oasis learning materials.

  • Apply: Participate in HFC-led workshops focused on the relevant technical concepts and their application to the case.

  • Build: Work with your team to develop the valuation analysis, Excel models, and supporting presentation.

  • Present: Present your conclusions, explain your assumptions, and defend your methodology.

The program is designed to combine structured learning with practical application. You do not need to be an experienced financial modeler to register, but you should be willing to learn, collaborate, and put in the work.

Prizes

Three Bloomberg subscription licenses, each valued at $299 per year, will be awarded as competition prizes.

Further details on prize allocation and judging criteria will be communicated before the competition begins.

Who should register?

The competition is open to students interested in finance, particularly investment banking, private equity, equity research, and corporate finance.

You do not need to have prior experience in valuation. Curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to work through the material are more important.

Registration

Register your interest through this page to join the participant list and receive further information about the competition.

The detailed schedule, case materials, workshop dates, team arrangements, and competition rules will be shared with registered participants as the program is finalized.

Spaces, participation requirements, and any relevant deadlines will be communicated before the competition starts.
