Imagine you could meet new friends who understood your squiggly background? Well, now you can!
I’m hosting an International Generalist Day meetup in Columbus, Ohio on September 16th, joining a global celebration happening across 30+ countries and 80+ locations.
If you’ve ever struggled to explain what you do because your experience doesn’t fit neatly into one box, you’ll probably find your people here.
What folks can expect
This first meetup is intentionally simple: meet other generalists in the Columbus community, make some new connections, and help shape what comes next.
We’ll keep it conversational and low-pressure, with plenty of time to:
Meet people with equally squiggly backgrounds
Share what you’re working on and learn what others are doing
Compare experiences across industries, roles, and disciplines
Talk about what would make future Columbus meetups worthwhile
We’ll also gather feedback on what this local community could become — including activities, topics, formats, and whether a monthly, quarterly, or other cadence makes the most sense.
Think of this as the starting point.
So, what’s a generalist?
Generalists are “professionals who apply their skills across multiple domains, connect disparate ideas, or serve as ‘translators’ between different teams.”
That might mean moving between industries, combining skills that don’t normally sit together, or being the person who naturally connects people, problems, and ideas across functions.
I’m excited to bring some of that energy to Columbus and connect with fellow multi-skilled professionals who’ve built careers that are a little less linear — and a lot more interesting.
This meetup is run by Amar and Yana, and organised by Generalist World - the community where generalists belong. You'll find everything you need to grow in your career - support, opportunity, lots of learning and great new connections.
