Make Your First Wikipedia Edit

​Have you ever wondered who writes Wikipedia, how information is checked, or whether you can contribute?

​Join Wikimedians of Singapore for a practical beginner-friendly workshop where you will learn how Wikipedia works and make your first properly sourced edit.

​No previous editing experience is required.

​Workshop: 2:30–4:00 pm

​We will cover:

• ​How Wikipedia works

• ​Creating and using an account

• ​Finding something suitable to improve

• ​Editing using VisualEditor

• ​Adding a reliable source and citation

• ​Writing in a neutral and encyclopaedic style

• ​Common beginner mistakes to avoid

​Participants will be guided through making at least one simple edit.

​Casual editing meetup: 4:00–6:00 pm

​After the workshop, stay for a free-and-easy editing session.

​You can:

• ​Continue improving an article

• ​Ask for help with an edit or draft

• ​Work on a topic of your own interest

• ​Explore Wikimedia Commons or Wikidata

• ​Meet other Wikipedia contributors

​Existing editors are welcome to join from 4:00 pm without attending the introductory workshop.

​What to bring

• ​A laptop and charger

• ​A Wikipedia account, where possible

• ​A topic or article you may be interested in improving

​You may leave at any time during the casual meetup.
