About Event

Death can be experienced through numerous collective lenses: health, art, science, biology, religion, and, yes, deeply private and intimate ones. It can't be outsourced, and it quietly shapes our choices, our cultures, and our timelines.

This Junto is a private, inquiry-driven conversation about death: what it is, what it does to meaning, how technology changes the terrain, and what a sane relationship to finitude (or not?) might look like in our high-agency, networked world.

Content note: This topic can touch on grief and existential anxiety. You’re always welcome to pass on any question. This is not group therapy, but rather a philosophical salon with room for humanity.

What we’ll explore (sample questions)

  • What is death, exactly — biological, experiential, informational, or social?

  • Does finitude create meaning, or just urgency?

  • What counts as “survival” in a world of emulation, memorial AIs, and digital legacy?

  • Is radical life extension an ethical imperative, a risk, or both?

  • What are some perspectives non-Western cultures have on death that we’ve forgotten?

What is a Junto?

Juntos are free-flowing group conversations conducted in the sincere spirit of inquiry after truth.

Benjamin Franklin founded the Junto Club to discuss morals, politics, and natural philosophy in order to improve themselves and their community.

Who should attend?

Juntos are an opportunity to explore a topic deeply and see how other thoughtful people understand it. This is a good fit for you if you have:

  • Insatiable curiosity

  • Truth over ego

  • Strong opinions, weakly held

  • The ability to engage respectfully with views you don’t share
