Cut-Through: Getting Things in Front of Busy People
Most good work dies in an inbox.
People can spend weeks developing a project, proposal or idea, then thirty seconds on the message that is supposed to get someone to engage with it. Getting your work in front of the right people (and making it easy for them to respond) is a genuine skill, and one you can learn.
This session is about the practical craft of cut-through. We’ll look at how to write emails people actually answer, WhatsApps that get a response rather than a “seen”, subject lines that work, clear asks, good timing, and knowing when a message should be a call instead.
We’ll also look at the wider game of visibility: how to warm someone up before you ask, when to use an intermediary, how to follow up without becoming annoying, and how to make your work legible to someone who has almost no time.
Bring a real project, message or person you’re trying to reach. We’ll work through questions like: Why is nobody replying? What is the actual ask? Who should this come from? And how do I get this in front of the person who can actually do something with it?
