You and Whose Army?
From Page to Stage: Rethinking the Book Event
'You and Whose Army?' events are coffee shop-style get togethers; open conversations for writers and publishers at any stage of their career. We get together monthly to discuss current topics in writing and publishing, and share ideas. The name comes from the idea that we may be small (small presses, small in number or going it alone), but united we are mighty.
On 8th October we will talk about book events.
This will strike fear into the hearts of some and generate a buzz of excitement for others. Whichever it is, MOB is keen to share what we have learnt about how to host a successful book event.
And a book event doesn't necessarily mean a book launch, a book event can be anything: online or in person, a mingle to chat about writing, a workshop, a launch, an author talk - many things! And anyone can organise and host one at any point, in fact, getting started now is a good way to build your audience and make connections, both professional and personal.
Whatever the shape and purpose of the event, the main thing is - how do you get people to come along, and once there, how do you make sure people enjoy it and get something meaningful from it?
MOB will provide the publisher's perspective and debut author, Jayne Marshall, will share her experiences and takeaways. Then we will open the floor to questions and conversation.
All are welcome at these events, you don't need to be currently writing or publishing - just interested in the topic on the table. So, grab your favourite drink, settle in, and get ready for a thoughtful hour of conversation and discovery!
After the event we will provide a recording, so you can refer back to anything that was helpful and useful.
FYI: The event will be recorded and attendees will be added to the Modern Odyssey Books Substack subscriber list, so that you will be automatically updated about future 'You and Whose Army?' events.
