About Event

Water reuse has evolved significantly through advances in treatment technologies, monitoring, and multi-barrier safety approaches. These strategies have helped make potable reuse a reliable water-supply option in a growing number of communities.

Produced water from oil and gas operations presents a different and more complex challenge because of its high salt concentrations and the presence of organic substances that may not yet be fully characterized or understood. This presentation will explore how established water-safety approaches used in potable reuse may help inform the treatment and evaluation of produced water for potential fit-for-purpose applications. Particular attention will be given to non-targeted analysis and novel approach methods (NAMs) used to identify and evaluate organic compounds and potential human and ecological health concerns.
