TrailMix Presents: Intro to Hiking
About the Community Hike
Join TrailMix Alliance for a welcoming community hike designed to build confidence, foster connection, and enjoy time outdoors together.
Whether you're new to hiking or simply looking for a supportive community, experienced TrailMix leaders will create a safe, welcoming environment while guiding the hike.
Come as you are. Whether you're attending solo or with a friend, you'll be welcomed into a supportive community that values encouragement over competition.
If attendance allows, we'll offer two hiking groups to accommodate different comfort levels while maintaining safe leader-to-participant ratios.
Hike Options
If attendance allows, participants may choose one of two guided routes from the same trailhead.
Option A – Relatively Flat
Approximately 3.5 miles
75 feet of elevation gain
Lollipop route around Hogback Pond
Mixture of paved and natural surface trails
AllTrails:

Option B – Inclines & Declines
Approximately 3.5 miles

If only one group is offered, TrailMix will select the route based on participant experience and overall group safety.
Safety
TrailMix activities are guided by our Inclusive Safety Framework, emphasizing physical, psychological, and emotional safety for all participants.
Experienced TrailMix leaders will be present with every group.
This event will take place rain or shine unless weather or trail conditions become unsafe.
Before You Go
Registered participants will receive:
Meeting location and arrival instructions
Suggested gear and clothing
Weather updates
Accessibility information, where applicable
Transportation: If public transit is part of your travel plans, Metro Transit's Transit Link may serve this area. To schedule a ride, call 651-602-LINK (5465) weekdays between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. no less than five days in advance.
A beautiful nearly 7-mile trail also begins from this parking area. While TrailMix won't be leading that route during this event, you're welcome to enjoy it on your own before or after the hike.
Registration
TrailMix is committed to making outdoor experiences accessible while building a sustainable nonprofit.
A suggested $10 contribution helps support our mission, programs, insurance, training, and organizational operations. Contributions are sliding scale, and we never want cost to prevent someone from participating. If the suggested amount creates a barrier, please contribute what you can—or simply join us.
Because attendance is limited, each registration reserves a spot that another participant cannot claim. If your plans change, please cancel your registration as early as possible so someone else can enjoy the opportunity.
All participants must read and agree to TrailMix's liability waiver during registration. Registration is not complete until the waiver has been reviewed.
Volunteering
Volunteers are always welcome.
Volunteer opportunities may include:
Participant check-in
Group coordination
Event logistics
Children & Families
Children age 10 and older are welcome to participate when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Children do not need a separate registration and may participate at no additional cost. During registration, the parent or guardian will be asked to indicate how many children will attend and provide any accessibility, accommodation, or other information that may help TrailMix leaders support their participation.
The registering parent or guardian must review and agree to the TrailMix Alliance Assumption of Risk & Release of Liability on behalf of participating minors.
Important Notes
This event is tobacco-, nicotine-, alcohol-, and drug-free, including vaping and e-cigarettes.
Please leave pets at home. While we love dogs, we recognize that not everyone feels comfortable around them, and not every dog feels comfortable in unfamiliar group settings. To help create a welcoming experience for everyone, personal pets are not permitted at TrailMix events. Service animals assisting individuals with disabilities are welcome in accordance with applicable law.
TrailMix may modify routes, group assignments, or event plans as needed to support participant safety and changing conditions.
Accessibility & Inclusion
We're committed to creating welcoming and accessible outdoor experiences. If you have accessibility needs or accommodation requests, please let us know during registration so we can plan thoughtfully.
